What does 2013 have in store for contractors?

Despite the recent recession, it appears that short term assignments have remained popular with end clients needing to fulfil a requirement, but not wanting to increase permanent staffing costs.  This is great news for our umbrella employees who seem to have weathered the economic storm reasonably well.

We are also pleased that the impact of the Agency Workers Regulations was minimal.  This is due to the fact that most contractors are already paid more than their permanent counterparts – proving once again that contracting can be a very rewarding career choice both emotionally and financially.

In 2013 we anticipate that for umbrella employees the horizon looks positive, end clients are actively recruiting and assignments rates are stable, which is good news.

For our accountancy clients we have slightly rougher seas to charter with the introduction of Real Time Information (RTI) in April.  This requires HMRC to be sent PAYE data each time a limited company makes a salary payment to a director, rather than one end of year update.

Of course RTI will incur more work and increased areas of compliance meaning that it is even more important for you to leave the management of your accounts in the hands of trusted professionals.

From a personal perspective Focused are moving to swanky new offices, we are continuing to expand our teams to cope with the growth of our business and our Focused Portal Development Plan continues to go from strength to strength with some really fancy improvements on the horizon for contractors later in the year.

All in all we are looking forward to great things in 2013 and we wish all our employees, clients and suppliers and equally positive New Year!
